BABY TEARING BOOKS AND DROOLING: THE REASON BEHIND

She makes the mess, she tears her books and drools on the her playpen like a little drooling monster. She also throws her toys out of the playpen.

She finds It fun and enjoyable to make these mess. And I the mother have to pick up the toys spreading everywhere around her playpen, and then wipe all the saliva from her mouth and on the playpen almost every minute or two….

I believe these are quite common and familiar scenes for many mums and dads.

Why Your Baby Loves Tearing Books

I have observed my little girl when she’s tearing her books or throwing her books, I find her is so concentrated with this activity, she usually starts with scratching the corner of the book binding area with so much dexterity and finger motions, and then peels the flaked paper bit by bit, I can see tearing books and throwing them is actually a positive sign that my bub is using her brain to explore and practising fine motor skills.

The throwing and ripping are all a part of her exploration and building fine motor skills. So embrace these action of our ‘little cute devils’, and cherish their brain development instead of becoming frustrated and annoyed.

A good way to reduce the ‘labour’ for mums and dads is to use few more ruggedly constructed books, such as board books, or better clothing books or interactive books such as the well known Ditty Bird series of books.

Why Your Baby Drools

And what about drooling and playing with saliva, actually don’t worry too much as this is the sign that your bub’s saliva glands are fired up after not being needed as much when eating easy-to-digest milk. When you’d bubs develop motor skills such as chewing her hand, her motor receptors sends the signal to her mouth which means ‘I am ready to eat’. This is basically your baby develops her mouth muscle and digestive saliva as soon as she is ready to eat solid foods. Commonly, all these drooling will eventually end when her 20 teeth have all popped out.

Drooling is also something good as the saliva cleans and clears the bacteria in which it breaks down the food and washes away the bacteria.
