Moving home is already a tedious and stressful job for many people, and when you have a kid, it is even harder. Healthy Mum & Bub can tell you it all as we are in the middle of moving home now.

Further, this global pandemic is making moving more difficult as apart from moving itself, ensuring that you are well protected against the virus, being able to breathe underneath the mask when doing the manpower, you also need to disinfect both old and new homes.

Let Healthy Mum & Bub share 5 tips on moving home with a kid, and we hope this will help you to make your life much easier when moving with a kid or a bunch of kids:

1. Leave your kid’s room the last to pack. This will help the kid to not feel lost and daunting. Familiar environment is so important to make your kids settled and not feeling uneasy when things are changing. Try to look from the eyes of your kid and feel how he/she feels.

2. Leave some of your kid’s favourite toys and have them accompanying him/her until the very last days of the move. Once again, this will settle your kid down as he/ she can still feel a sense of familiarity.

3. Pre-make meals for your kids whenever you have a bit of time in between the moves and heat up when it is meal time for them, or ensure meals are quick and easy to make. Though always remember to have a good balance of nutrition as you don’t want your kids to get sick during your moving period, this will only cause more stresses for all of you in the family.

4. When unpacking and packing things, ensure all hazardous materials are kept away from your kid. Leaving your kids away from any danger of fragile items, boxes, electric sockets, sharp materials, your medicine and so on.

5. Disinfect the new home and have a clear plan where the kid’s room will be, steam clean all carpets as high temperature from the steam cleaner is one of the best ways to kill virus, germs and bacteria. Parents, I am sure you don’t want your kids to be infected at all by any nasty virus, germs or bacteria.

6. Search for a covid safe removalist so that you can have peace of mind when they come to move for you and your family.

7. Try to move whatever is bulky and not too heavy and heavy but not too big to the new place before the removalist come to assist with your move, so that you can minimal human contact with your belongings and goods. This will save your time to disinfect a lot of your stuff after you moved to the new place.

8. Ensure the baby, toddler or your elder kid’s seating area in the car is disinfected on the day that the removalist is coming. And when you brought your kid to the new home, make sure you leave them in their safe room while you are unpacking and putting up things. So you can bring your kid to the new place with ease of mind.
